A leaker has suggested the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will get Elden Ring. The acclaimed RPG will reportedly come with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC bundled – but FromSoftware may not be the developer. Nintendo has yet to officially reveal the Switch 2.

Rumors of an Elden Ring release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console have fans buzzing with excitement. The unexpected news comes from Nash Weedle on X, who revealed in a tweet that FromSoftware’s action RPG is coming to the Switch 2 in 2025.

Surprisingly, it also appears that FromSoftware will not develop the Elden Ring Switch 2 port. Instead, the studio working on the RPG for Nintendo’s upcoming console is reportedly Virtuos, the same team behind Dark Souls: Remastered on the Nintendo Switch.

Why Elden Ring on Switch 2 is Big News

Elden Ring released to critical acclaim in 2022, quickly becoming a fan-favorite and winning multiple awards, including Game of the Year. Many gamers consider Elden Ring to be FromSoftware’s best game, and with a score of 96, it is the 26th highest-rated video game on Metacritic.

Porting the open-world RPG to Switch is difficult due to its technical demands. It’s something FromSoftware has always struggled with, as their only game on the Switch is Dark Souls: Remastered, released in 2018. However, with the upcoming Switch 2, it may now be possible for Nintendo players to get their hands on the dark fantasy.

Who is the Mystery Developer?

According to leaker Nash Weedle, the developer of the Elden Ring Switch 2 port is Virtuos. Founded in 2004, Virtuos has previously partnered with gaming studios like Rockstar, Platinum Games, and FromSoftware to release L.A. Noir: The Complete Edition, NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition, and Dark Souls: Remastered on the Nintendo Switch.

Elden Ring fans are hesitant about the game’s port coming from a different developer other than FromSoftware. Since Virtuos has previously worked with the studio on Dark Souls: Remastered and ported other games to Nintendo’s hybrid console, Virtuos is the perfect developer for Elden Ring and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

What to Expect from Elden Ring on Switch 2

Nintendo is yet to officially announce the Nintendo Switch 2, with the console expected in late 2025. Rumors earlier this year suggested the Switch 2 will feature an 8-inch OLED screen and the ability to connect to an output in 4K. Fans can expect a big jump in hardware and capabilities from the original Switch console, which is nearly eight years old.

Elden Ring will reportedly release in a “definitive edition,” with the base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and all updates bundled with it. If the rumors are true and Elden Ring does come to the Switch 2, it could set a precedent for other companies to adapt their more technologically advanced games to the console.

Conclusion

We are yet to get official confirmation from Nintendo for the Switch 2, but already rumors are spreading of upcoming games. What games would you like to see on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?
